Isakower Machine is named after the Isakower Phenomenon, a sleep-related visual hallucination of shadowy, rounded forms swelling to overwhelming size, threatening to crush the subject. Designed for a re-enchanted garden, the work reunites the female and the machine

as an antidote to disenchantment. Inspired by this phenomenon and its link to oral regression, pink latex balloon forms, referencing the mother’s breasts, inflate and deflate, ‘breathing’ in and out, and the machine becomes simultaneously inviting and threatening for the audience.
